Windsor, Ont., native Mychal Mulder has signed a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, the team announced Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 25-year-old played out a 10-day contract with the six-time champs after logging 39 games with the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce this season. He averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists at the big-league level over that 10-day stretch (through six games), and logged 17 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for Sioux Falls.
“He’s been doing great on both sides of the floor,” Warriors star, and fellow Canadian, Andrew Wiggins told the Canadian Press recently. “Defensively he’s getting after it. He’s fast, he’s stronger than he looks. And on offence, he’s shooting the ball well.
“He’s playing with confidence, attacking and doing everything we need him to do.”
Mulder spent two seasons with the G League’s Windy City Bulls before suiting up for Sioux Falls and getting another crack at the NBA with the Warriors. After years spent paying his dues outside of the bright lights of the big leagues, Mulder needed no convincing when the former champs came calling.
“They said, ‘We want to offer you a 10-day. I know it’s late, but would you be willing to get on a flight over here at 6 a.m.?'” Mulder told the Canadian Press after signing that first contract with the Warriors.
“I was like, ‘Sir, I’ll get on a flight any time you want me to. I’ll get on a flight right now if you want.'”
The Canadian will take on Canada’s squad next week when the Toronto Raptors host the Warriors at Scotiabank Arena.
