The return of Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry to the court will not happen as he expected.

The Warriors announced on Saturday that, though Curry keeps making good progress in his recovery from a broken hand, he will not be ready to play Sunday against the Washington Wizards.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported earlier this week that Curry would be in the lineup for the game against Washington, but, though the guard returned to practice earlier this week, he will not be able to fulfill his initial March 1 target.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said on Wednesday that the team would take Curry’s recovery “day by day,” with no official return date set.

“That (March 1) date has been something that’s for sure on Steph’s mind. That’s when he wants to play, but he’ll play when we all feel like he’s ready to go,” Kerr said.

The Warriors face the Wizards on Sunday as the second game of a back-to-back. They will be in action again on Tuesday, on the road, against the Denver Nuggets.
