Once you become an all-star, things change, they say.
Several years ago Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid was attempting to convince Rihanna to go on a date with him. However, his social media efforts were met with a famously savage reply from the pop star.
On Thursday, the 23-year-old finally accomplished that feat when he was named to the Eastern Conference starting lineup for the Feb. 18 NBA All-Star Game. But it sounds like he’s cooled on his feelings for Rihanna.
Embiid scored 26 points on Thursday to help the Sixers to an 89-80 win over the Boston Celtics and following the contest, Embiid was asked by a TNT reporter if there was anything he’d like to say to anybody.
“She denied me back then so why go with her again,” Embiid quipped. “So I have to pass that and move on to the next one.”
Earlier in the day, Sixers fans made sure to let Rihanna know what was up.
While it’d be easy to say Embiid got the last laugh, turns out Rihanna is actually rumoured to be dating Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel.
So, as for this whole date drama, it might just be a moot point anyways.
