Washington Wizards guard Isaiah Thomas has been suspended two games for entering the stands during Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Additionally, the two fans involved have been banned from Wells Fargo Center for one year by the 76ers and have had their seats revoked.
Thomas walked up to two fans and said some words to them late in the fourth quarter Saturday. He was ejected from the game for his actions.
Afterwards, Thomas told the media that one of the fans had two middle fingers pointed his way after he made two free throws and said “f— you b—-” three times.
“I said don’t be disrespectful,” Thomas recalled. “I’m a man before anything. Be a fan. And his response was ‘I’m sorry, I just wanted a free frosty.’ Because if you miss two free throws, I guess the fans get a frosty.”
“In no shape or form, that shouldn’t be allowed,” Thomas added. “I’ve been in the league for a while, fans can say whatever they want… but that crossed the line.”
In a statement, the NBA said the decision was made under a bright-light rule that “is enforced even in circumstances such as these when the encounter between Thomas and fans did not escalate.”
