San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown has the inside track on becoming the next head coach of the 76ers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.
If Brown doesn’t end up in the role, the shortlist is believed to include Portland Trail Blazers assistant David Vanterpool, Sixers assistant Michael Curry, and Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga. Chicago Bulls assistant coach Adrian Griffin also interviewed for the job although the list of candidates that have been linked with the opening is about a mile long.
Brown, 52, has been a member of the Spurs staff since 2002 when he joined the team as an assistant coach and director of player development. He has slowly evolved into Gregg Popovich’s right-hand man in San Antonio.
It has been an offseason of change in Philadelphia as Doug Collins re-signed as head coach at season’s end after leading the Sixers to a 34-48 season. The ownership group has also reshuffled the front office as well bringing in Sam Hinckle from the Houston Rockets to run the basketball side of the operation.
