Steve Delabar is optimistic that he’ll be ready to pitch this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles despite taking a line drive off of the outside muscle of his right leg in the ninth inning. The reliever left the game as a precaution, returning to the clubhouse where he iced the impacted area.
“I’m lucky that it hit the muscle,” he said, adding “Kick save and a beauty.”
The leg muscle remains tender and will likely be sore tomorrow, so Delabar is not expecting to pitch in the series finale against the Houston Astros. However, both Delabar and manager John Gibbons expressed hope that the injury would prove to be relatively minor.
