Montreal Alouettes star running back William Stanback practised on Tuesday for the first time since suffering an ankle injury in the CFL season opener.

Stanback was listed as limited in practice by the team.

The league's leading rusher last season, Stanback was carted off the field after suffering the injury in the Alouettes' season-opening loss in Calgary against the Stampeders on June 9.

Stanback was a CFL all-star in 2019 and 2021.

The Alouettes' next game is Saturday in Edmonton against the Elks, but the team has said the goal is for Stanback to return Oct. 10 against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Meanwhile, Elks star receiver Kenny Lawler (ankle) was listed as a full participant in practice. He hasn't played since late August.
