The Toronto Argonauts have hired Chris Jones to join Ryan Dinwiddie's staff as a defensive consultant.

Jones joins the Argonauts who are without defensive co-ordinator Glen Young and defensive backs coach Josh Bell with both on leave due to personal matters. He returns to Toronto after serving as the club's defensive coordinator, assistant head coach and assistant general manager from 2012-2013.

The 54-year-old last coached in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders where he held the role of head coach and general manager. Jones would leave the CFL in 2019 to join the Cleveland Browns as a defensive specialist but was let go after one season and was then hired to be a head coach with South Pittsburg High School in Tennessee.

Prior to joining the Roughriders, Jones spent two seasons as head coach in Edmonton where he led the team to a Grey Cup in 2015. Jones also worked in various coaching positions with the Montreal Alouettes and Calgary Stampeders and has won four Grey Cup titles in 2002, 2008, 2012 and 2015.
