The Toronto Argonauts will look to pick up their second win of the season without two key parts of their team sidelined.
Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie confirmed Thursday that receiver DaVaris Daniels and defensive lineman Folarin Orimolade will be unable to suit up for Saturday's game against the Edmonton Elks.
Both players missed the first few days of practice, with Daniels dealing with a groin injury and Orimolade sidelined with an ankle injury.
"We got some fresh bodies coming back, but unfortunately, a few guys aren't going to be able to play this week who didn't get the bye week that we thought," Dinwiddie said after practice Thursday about the availability of Daniels and Orimolade. "They're going to be out this week. We'll see how (Orimolade) is going to be, but I think (Daniels) will be back next week. He was looking pretty good out there yesterday running around, but it's early, so I don't want this to be a long-term thing."
Dinwiddie also confirmed that starting quarterback Cameron Dukes was back at practice after he was limited by an illness Wednesday.
In the Argonauts' Week 1 matchup against the B.C. Lions, Orimolade registered a sack and three tackles in a 35-27 victory.
Daniels had two receptions on three targets for 27 yards. The 31-year-old was the Argonauts' leading receiver in 2023, with 52 catches for 1,009 yards and eight touchdowns.
Toronto is looking to keep pace with the reigning Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes, who sit atop the East Division at 2-0 to start the season.
The Edmonton Elks are not off to an ideal start to their season as one of the three teams with an 0-2 record. They made many key additions to their roster, including former Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, special teams player of the year Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and Javon Leake.
