The Ottawa Redblacks continue to make front office changes amid a disappointing season.
Shawn Burke was fired as vice president of football operations of the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday as the front office turnover continues amid an 0-10 start to the CFL season.
Burke has led the club's football operations since joining the team in 2021 as general manager.
He was promoted to vice president before this season after the club named former Toronto coach Ryan Dinwiddie as Redblacks head coach and GM.
“This is a difficult decision because I have a lot of respect for Shawn,” said the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group CEO Mark Goudie in a statement. “Nobody can question how hard he has worked or how much he cares about the Redblacks. Shawn has embraced this organization and this community, and he has given an enormous amount of himself to the job. I am very grateful to him for that commitment.
“At the same time, our football results have not been good enough. Ultimately, I have a responsibility to make changes when I believe we need a different approach, and I have concluded that a change in our football leadership is necessary.”
The team made the playoffs just once during his tenure and posted a 21-60-1 record.
Goudie said added that the Redblacks will be providing a further update on the team's football operations structure.
Burke's dismissal comes six days after team president Adrian Sciarra stepped down.
