Craig Dickenson's tenure with the Saskatchewan Roughriders is over after the team announced that the head coach will not have his contract renewed.
The move comes after Saskatchewan failed to qualify for the CFL playoffs two years in a row.
Saskatchewan will bring back Jeremy O’Day after agreeing to a new contract with the vice president of football operations and general manager.
O’Day has been with the Roughriders for 26 seasons including six as vice president of football operations and general manager.
“Jeremy has an excellent track record of identifying and bringing in quality talent to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with many players having gone on to have successful seasons including two 1,000-yard receivers in 2023,” Roughriders president and CEO Craig Reynolds said in a statement. “I am confident in his ability to find the next great head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and to put together a team Rider Nation can be proud of.”
The Roughriders introduced Dickenson as the team's head coach in 2019 after he spent three seasons on the staff as special teams co-ordinator. In the first two seasons as coach, the Roughriders made the playoffs but failed to qualify in 2022 and 2023 finishing with a 34-34 record during his tenure.
“I want to thank coach Dickenson for everything he has given to the Saskatchewan Roughriders over his ten years in Green and White. From his time as Special Teams Coordinator to his five seasons as a Head Coach, he gave all he had to the team and did it with kindness and respect,” said O’Day. “We appreciate his hard work and dedication and wish him all the best moving forward.”
