TORONTO – Brett Hunchak threw for 331 yards and five touchdowns as the York Lions opened their Canadian Interuniversity Sport football season on Sunday with a 57-13 victory over the Waterloo Warriors.
Hunchak was 17-of-25 passing and also had an interception for York (1-0). Colton Hunchak and D’Saun Greenaway both caught a pair of touchdowns with Jahmari Bennett and Nikola Kalinic also adding TD receptions.
Matt Krason crossed over for two rushing scores.
Lucas McConnell completed 17-of-40 passes for 283 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Waterloo (0-1). Mitch Kernick caught the lone TD pass and finished the game with two receptions for 25 yards. Richmond Nketiah led Warriors receivers with three catches for 72 yards.
Nick Naylor converted all eight of his extra point attempts for the Lions while Caleb Girard was 2 for 3 on field goals for Waterloo.

GUELPH GRYPHONS 41 TORONTO VARSITY BLUES 22
GUELPH, Ont. — MacKenzie Jones ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns as the Gryphons used a strong running game to down Toronto.
Daniel Palmer-Salmon and Johnny Augustin also had rushing TD’s for Guelph (1-0).
Kaleb Leach, Marcus Hobbs and Calvin Vaughan ran touchdowns in for the Varsity Blues (0-1).

LAURIER GOLDEN HAWKS 37 QUEEN’S GAELS 18
WATERLOO, Ont. — Julien John overcame four interceptions to throw two touchdowns and lead Laurier past the Gaels.
Eric Guiltinan ran for 85 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for the Golden Hawks (1-0).
Nate Hobbs completed 20-of-35 passes for 187 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for Queen’s (0-1).

LONDON, Ont. — Chris Merchant threw for two TDs and ran in two more as the Mustangs thrashed Windsor.
Alex Taylor rushed for two touchdowns for Western (1-0) while receiver Brett Ellerman added two more TD catches.
Jalen Brady threw for 137 yards for the Lancers (0-1) and was intercepted twice.

HAMILTON — Asher Hastings threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Marauders over Carleton.
Dan Vandervoort and Max Cameron each caught two TD strikes for Hamilton (1-0).
Receiver Nathan Behar had the lone touchdown for the Ravens (0-1).
