PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka — Leading umpire Simon Taufel will retire from international cricket after the World Twenty20, and take up a new role as manager of Umpire Performance and Training with the International Cricket Council.
Taufel said in an ICC statement on Wednesday that he’s "moving on from active international umpiring for personal and professional reasons."
The 41-year-old Australian umpired 74 tests and 174 one-day internationals since making his first international appearance in 1999.
He was adjudged ICC’s umpire of the year for five successive years — from 2004 to 2008.
