Curling's first professional league will launch this April.
Rock League has announced its schedule for the 2026 and 2027 curling seasons, with a preview event coming to Toronto in April to kickstart the new league.
The Rock League will make its on-ice debut at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on the campus of Toronto Metropolitan University from April 6- 12. The first full regular season will then launch in January of 2027 with stops in Moose Jaw, Sask., Halifax, Utica, N.Y., and Ottawa on the schedule before a playoff tournament at a yet-to-be-announced location.
“Today’s fans want more than a seat in the stands. They want to feel the energy, be part of the action, and share in the passion of the sport,” said Nic Sulsky, CEO and Co-Founder, The Curling Group, in a statement. “Rock League’s debut season will be a showcase of the innovation and atmosphere that will define a new era in curling, honouring the game’s roots while making it more accessible, more interactive, and way more fun.”
The Toronto event will feature five days of round-robin play. Each game features two franchises competing in men's, women's and mixed doubles, with the franchise that wins at least two of the disciplines earning a win in the standings. The final day of round robin play will see each franchise ice two teams of mixed fours, with each game being worth one win. The top four franchises will advance to the semifinals and then finals, which will be played in the same men's, women's and mixed doubles format.
The Toronto event will include a $250,000 prize purse.
Earlier this week, the Rock League announced the six franchises that will compete when the new league launches. Those teams are the Alpine Curling Club (Europe), the Typhoon Curling Club (Asia-Pacific), Maple United (Canada), the Frontier Curling Club (USA), the Shield Curling Club (Canada) and Northern United (Europe).
The teams are made up of 30 men and 30 women and include stars such as Rachel Homan, Kerri Einarson and Brad Jacobs.
