Kerri Einarson’s rink is set for a significant reset.
Team Einarson announced Friday it will part ways with third Val Sweeting, alternate Krysten Karwacki and coach Reid Carruthers ahead of next season.
Formed in 2018, the Winnipeg-based team quickly established itself as a powerhouse on the national and international stage. The rink captured multiple Grand Slam titles and dominated the Canadian women’s championship, winning five Scotties Tournament of Hearts crowns.
On the world stage, the team earned a silver medal most recently at the World Women's Curling Championship and two bronze medals.
"Kerri, Shannon and Karlee want to sincerely thank Val for her hard work, commitment, and contributions to the team over the past eight years," the team said in a release. "Her pursuit of excellence has always been evident in her attention to detail, relentless work ethic, and her passion for the game. She has been an integral part of the team's success through her tenure."
Einarson, along with Shannon Birchard and Karlee Burgess, thanked Sweeting for her contributions over eight seasons, highlighting her “attention to detail, relentless work ethic and passion for the game.”
Sweeting joined Einarson, Birchard, and then-lead Briane Harris in 2018 after she skipped her own squad.
“I’m not sure exactly what the future holds yet,” she said. “But I look forward to seeing where the next chapter takes me.”
Karwacki, who joined as an alternate in 2021, was also recognized for her impact both on and off the ice.
“I’m grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had over the years,” Karwacki said. “I’m looking forward to continuing my competitive curling career next season in whatever form that takes.”
Carruthers, who stepped in as coach in 2022, was credited as a key voice behind the team’s continued success, providing leadership and strategic guidance.
Despite the changes, the statement emphasized the strong bond between the departing and remaining members.
“We all have immense respect and care for one another and will cherish the memories we had as teammates and, more importantly, friends,” the team said.
Details on the new lineup are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
