Just hours after 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts gold-medal winners Team Einarson announced sweeping changes to their rink, the runners-up hit the curling world with news of their own.
Team Lawes announced Thursday will not compete next season as lead Kristin Gordon and fourth Kaitlyn Lawes have decided to take the year off from professional curling.
"We are forever grateful for the memories we made together on and off the ice," the team said in a statement. "We jam-packed these four years with a lot of training camps, competitions, and fun trips to Iceland, Norway and Japan. We had exponential growth, faced challenges head-on, started our families and made lifelong friendships.
Skip Selena Njegovan and second Jocelyn Peterman are exploring options to compete when play resumes.
Lawes, 37, is a six-time Grand Slam champion, winning gold in three Players' Championships, one Champions Cup, one National and one Masters. She won the Scottie's Tournament of Hearts in 2015 as a member of Jennifer Jones' team.
Gordon, 33, is a three-time champ (two Masters, one National) and has played on Team Einarson and Team Fleury prior to Team Lawes.
The team has played together since 2022 when Lawes returned to skipping.
