Jacobs heading straight to Northern Ontario final

Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs is one win away from returning to the Tim Hortons Brier.

Jacobs, the 2013 Brier winner from Sault Ste. Marie, defeated Mike Assad 5-2 Saturday to top the Northern Ontario Travelers Championship round robin with a 6-1 record and advance straight to Sunday’s final.

Elsewhere, Jordan Chandler shut out Colin Koivula 7-0 during the final round robin draw. The victory gave Chandler (5-2) the edge over Koivula (4-3) heading into their rematch in the semifinal.

Dylan Johnston beat reigning Northern Ontario junior champion Tanner Horgan 9-6. Johnston, Horgan and Assad all missed the playoffs with 3-4 records.

Patrick Gelinas topped Robbie Gordon 6-5 in an extra end. Gelinas and Gordon finished with 2-5 records.
