MacKenzie, P.E.I. edges by Nova Scotia at Brier

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Eddie MacKenzie scored a pair of points in the ninth end to lead P.E.I. past Nova Scotia’s Jamie Murphy 7-5 at the at the Canadian men’s curling championship Sunday.

Mackenzie’s victory moved his rink to 1-1 after Draw 3 at the Tim Hortons Brier, while Murphy fell to 0-2.

Elsewhere in early play, Quebec’s Jean-Michael Menard defeated Saskatchewan’s Steve Laycock 7-5, Alberta’s Kevin Koe throttled New Brunswick’s James Grattan 10-1 and the Northwest Territories-Yukon’s Jamie Koe scored one in the 10th to edge Ontario’s Greg Balsdon 5-4.

Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton and B.C. skip John Morris are the only undefeated rinks at 2-0. Both were scheduled to compete in the afternoon draw.
