Homan, Nichols improve to 6-0 at Canadian mixed doubles

SASKATOON — Rachel Homan and Mark Nichols exploded for five points in the eighth end against Ashley Quick and Mike Armstrong en route to a 10-7 win in Draw 11 at the Canadian mixed doubles championship on Friday.

Quick and Armstrong looked to have the game in hand after scoring three in the fifth end and a deuce in the seventh.

The win pushes Homan and Nichols to 6-0 after 12 draws at the tournament, joining two other pairs with similar records.

Laura Crocker and Geoff Walker used five points in the opening end to rout Chelsea Carey and Colin Hodgson 10-1 in four ends and improve to 6-0.

Both Homan and Nichols along with Crocker and Walker are tied atop the Pool A standings.

Dawn and Mike McEwen are also 6-0 after a 7-2 rout of Nancy Martin and Catlin Schneider. The McEwen’s scored three in the seventh end which prompted both teams to shake hands.

Marliese Kasner and Dustin Kalthoff suffered their first loss of the tournament, falling 6-5 to Joanne Courtney and Reid Carruthers in nine ends. Both pairs are tied for first in Pool D with 5-1 records.
