Top GSOC teams vying for Pinty’s Cup at Players’ Championship

Check out the five best shots from the entire 2018 Grand Slam of Curling.

TORONTO — The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling campaign resumes Tuesday night with the crown jewel event of the series, the Players’ Championship at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre, and one with a lot on the line.

Not only are the top 12 men’s teams and top 12 women’s teams in the world competing for a combined $300,000 purse (split equally between the two divisions) but they’re also chasing the Pinty’s Cup.

Formerly known as the bonus cup, the Pinty’s Cup is awarded to the season champions in the series. The top four teams in both divisions receive additional paycheques with the winners cashing in $75,000.

Rachel Homan’s team has had a dominant season in the women’s division by winning three consecutive Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling titles. Homan tops the standings with 52 points and a 22-point gap over second-place Anna Hasselborg and Silvana Tirinzoni’s teams (both tied for second at 30).

It’s still anyone’s game on the men’s side. Brad Gushue’s crew leads the way with 34 points, but with roughly double points up for grabs at the Players’ Championship, this one will surely come down to the final rock.
