AIGLE, Switzerland — The International Cycling Union says it banned French rider Lloyd Mondory for four years for testing positive for EPO.

The UCI says the 33-year-old Mondory cannot race until March 2019.

The sanction is one of the first passed by the governing body’s new anti-doping tribunal.

Mondory tested positive for EPO, a banned blood-boosting hormone, in an out-of-competition sample taken in February.

He had no major race wins riding for the French team Ag2r-La Mondiale since 2004.

Mondory can appeal against the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
