LONDON — Bradley Wiggins will compete on the track at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games next month after missing out on the Tour de France.
Before becoming the first British rider to win cycling’s showpiece event in 2012, Wiggins enjoyed a successful career on the track. He won six world titles and three Olympic gold medals before focusing on the road.
A former pursuit specialist, Wiggins expected to compete in the Tour starting next week in Britain alongside defending champion Chris Froome, but was left out of the Sky team announced on Friday.
British Cycling head coach Shane Sutton said Wiggins’ inclusion in the Commonwealth squad was "a real morale boost."
A decision regarding the races in which Wiggins will compete in Glasgow from July 23-Aug. 3 has yet to be made.
