Fan Fuel 2013 NHL team roster preview: Los Angeles Kings

BY ALIN MATEESCU – FAN FUEL BLOGGER

With puckdrop for the 2012-13 NHL season set for Saturday, it is now time to examine each team’s roster as they head into a shortened 48 game season. Here is my look at the Los Angeles Kings and the possible questions facing their roster, their cap space, their unrestricted free agents and their restricted free agents. Salary cap and cap space provided by capgeek.com.

Salary Cap: $62,495,227 (14)

Cap Space: $7,704,773

Players Signed: 24

UFA: RW – Trent Radek

RFA: none

The only change the Los Angeles Kings made to their Stanley Cup roster was trading Kevin Westgarth to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Anthony Stewart, a fourth-round draft pick in 2013 and a sixth-round selection in 2014.

With $7,704,773 in cap space, the Kings will have plenty of room to make additional moves should they suffer a Stanley Cup hangover and get off to a slow start in the standings.

One card they have to play is dealing backup goalie Jonathan Bernier. With the rise of 2012 Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Quick, Bernier has essentially become
expendable and has already been linked to a number of teams in need of help between the pipes.
