Italy has let its fans down once again.
The Azzurri fell to Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1 (4-1 on penalty kicks) on Tuesday in the final qualifier to miss their third straight World Cup.
Italy had qualified for 14 straight tournaments before this recent downturn. Since it won the World Cup in 2006, it has achieved just one victory on soccer's grandest stage.
2026 will be the first time the World Cup will be a 48-team field, making it even more shocking that the four-time champions won't be there.
