Canada has an unexpected absence in its starting lineup as it endeavours to reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time.
Midfielder Stephen Eustaquio, who wore the captain's armband for the country's first two games, is on the bench to begin Wednesday's match against Switzerland.
Striker Jonathan David will serve as captain in Eustaquio's absence.
Eustaquio missed training on Sunday, though no reason was given.
Canada is already thin in the midfield after losing Ismael Kone with a broken leg in Thursday's 6-0 victory over Qatar.
Nathan Saliba, who entered that match as a replacement for Kone, will once again take his spot in the midfield against Switzerland.
Mathieu Choiniere will start alongside Saliba in the midfield, while Alphonso Davies is again not in the starting lineup but expected to play.
Canada only needs a draw or better to win its group and set up two potential knockout-stage games on home soil in Vancouver.
