WINNIPEG – Defensive back Alex Suber is leaving the CFL the way he came in — as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber.
Suber signed a one-day contract with Winnipeg on Friday, then announced his retirement.
Suber joined the Bombers in 2010 and appeared in 65 career games — all starts — over five seasons. He registered 226 tackles, 28 special-teams tackles, three interceptions (one returned for a 66-yard TD) six fumble recoveries, one sack, and 12 pass knockdowns.
He also started the 2011 East Final, recording an interception and fumble recovery before adding six tackles and two knockdowns in the Grey Cup game.
"Alex was a consummate professional from the moment he arrived in Winnipeg six years ago," Winnipeg GM Kyle Walters said in a statement. "He was one of those players who was willing to do whatever it was going to take to win a football game, and maintained a very team-first mentality throughout his career.
"We thank him for his contributions both on and off the field to our organization."
