SHERBROOKE, Que. — The news about receiver Jerry Porter on Thursday wasn’t good.

The former NFL star was injured during the Montreal Alouettes practice Wednesday. A day later, Porter was diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon that will require season-ending surgery.

Porter, 32, was in his first CFL campaign. He spent eight years in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders, where present Montreal head coach Marc Trestman was the club’s offensive co-ordinator at the time.

Porter ended his NFL career with one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, finishing with 295 catches for 4,120 yards and 31 touchdowns.
