Argonauts sign defensive lineman Rawlings, release four players

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive lineman Cardell Rawlings on Saturday.

Rawlings spent the last five seasons at Wingate University, redshirting his freshman season for the Bulldogs.

The North Carolina native was a defensive force in his senior season, racking up 77 tackles, 17 sacks, 21 1/2 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries en route to being named South Atlantic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Rawlings played 43 games for Wingate and totalled 164 tackles, 23 1/2 sacks, 32 1/2 tackles for loss, five fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

The club also announced Sunday that they released quarterback Noah Picton and defensive linemen Hassan Barry, Troy Davis and Jhaustin Thomas.
