MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — The Toronto Argonauts have officially re-signed free-agent linebacker Willie Pile.
Pile and the team had agreed to terms last week when the free-agent period opened. The deal was announced Monday at the team’s training complex in Mississauga.
Pile was Toronto’s defensive leader last season, posting a team-high 75 tackles that left him sixth among CFL defenders.
"Willie was our most consistent player on defence last year," Argos GM Adam Rita said in a release. "He will continue to play an important role on our defence for years to come."
Re-signing Pile was a top priority for Toronto, which had lost four players to the NFL this off-season, including running back/special-teams star Dominique Dorsey to the Washington Redskins. The others were receiver P.K. Sam (Buffalo), cornerback Byron Parker (Philadelphia) and offensive lineman Cliff Washburn (Houston).
Pile originally joined the Argonauts as a free agent prior to the 2007 season. In two seasons with the team, he has started 35 games, made 148 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles, seven quarterback sacks, and three interceptions.
