The Argos made the move to reportedly allow Thorpe the opportunity to explore his NFL options.
The six-foot-two, 185-pound Thorpe signed with Toronto last September and six tackles and a fumble recovery last season, his first in the CFL.
Thorpe signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn. He appeared in nine games, registering five tackles.
