Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols will miss the rest of the season after undergoing successful shoulder surgery on Thursday.

Nichols injured his shoulder in Week 10 against the B.C. Lions after he was sacked by defensive lineman Shawn Lemon. Winnipeg went on to win 32-16 with Chris Streveler taking over for Nichols.

The team was hoping that Nichols would be able to rehab and avoid season-ending surgery, but the medical staff determined that surgery would be required.

In nine games this season, the 32-year-old has thrown for 1,936 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Winnipeg is 9-4 in 2019 and holds the top spot in the CFL’s West Division.
