WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers acquired veteran defensive back Korey Banks from the B.C. Lions for Canadian receiver Kito Poblah on Friday.
Banks spent eight of his 10 CFL seasons with B.C., helping the Lions win two Grey Cups during his tenure. Last year, he registered 46 tackles, one sack, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Banks, a five-time league all-star, began his CFL career with the Ottawa Renegades in 2004 and has 37 career interceptions.
"Korey adds an immediate presence in our locker room, veteran leadership both on and off the field," Winnipeg GM Kyle Walters said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming him to the Bomber organization."
Poblah was a 2011 supplemental draft pick by Winnipeg. He had 53 catches for 534 yards and a touchdown in 34 games with the Bombers.
Winnipeg also released quarterback Jason Boltus, defensive back Bo Smith, linebacker Daniel Sheffield, running back Mario Fannin and defensive end Mathieu Boulay.
