Canadian slotback Chris Getzlaf retires after 11 CFL seasons

REGINA — Canadian slotback Chris Getzlaf has retired after 11 CFL seasons and two Grey Cup titles.

Getzlaf made the announcement Thursday at Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He spent the bulk of his career with his hometown team.

The two-time West All-Star (2012, 2013) ends his career with 6,192 receiving yards on 414 receptions and 41 touchdowns with Hamilton, Sasktachewan and Edmonton.

Getzlaf began his CFL career with Hamilton in 2007, appearing in two games before joining the Riders. He was on Saskatchewan’s practice roster for the team’s 2007 Grey Cup win.

He went on to register 368 catches for 5,697 yards and 38 TDs with Saskatchewan and was named top Canadian in the Riders’ 45-23 win over Hamilton in the 2013 Grey Cup final.

He Edmonton as a free agent before the 2016 season. He had five catches for 43 yards and a TD in eight games with the Eskimos in 2017 before being released in September. He finished last season on Saskatchewan’s practice roster.
