OTTAWA — Ottawa Police are looking for a former second-string CFL quarterback, who is wanted in the United States after skipping probation on sex-related crimes.

Cody Ledbetter dodged police on Saturday after officers were called to a house in the city’s south end with a disturbance complaint.

Police identified Ledbetter — who was backup quarterback for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers until his retirement in 2002 — as the suspect.

A search of Ledbetter’s name also turned up an outstanding arrest warrant in Texas.

After leaving the CFL, Ledbetter apparently took a job as an assistant high school football coach in Alvarado, Texas, just outside Dall-Fort Worth, where he pleaded guilty in 2005 to two counts of having an improper relationship with a female student.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to 10 years probation in a deal approved by both the victim and her mother, but the Johnson County sheriff’s office reported in July that Ledbetter had violated the terms of his arrangement and had likely fled to Canada.

In a separate case, Ledbetter was also accused in 2004 of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of a teacher having an improper relationship with a female student and two counts of indecency with a child.

Ottawa Police said Sunday they believed he was still in the area and asked residents to be on the lookout for a maroon 2003 Dodge Ram 4-door pickup with Oklahoma licence plates.
