CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders released seven players Thursday to get down to their 46-man active roster, although those seven could remain with the club on the practice team.
Defensive back Raymond Brown, offensive lineman Stanley Bryant, linebacker Ray Cheatham, fullback Mike Cornell, defensive lineman Kenny Mainor and receivers Ronald Keels and Johnny Forzani were released.
“I’ve released seven players with the intention they will resume with the team on our practice roster,” Stampeder coach and general manager John Hufnagel said, adding the practice roster will be finalized Friday.
The CFL mandated all clubs reduce their training camp rosters to 46 by 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. Hufnagel said he hasn’t decided yet which players will go on his injured list.
The Stampeders shed 15 players Wednesday, including one who retired.
“Most of the sighs of relief occurred yesterday when we made a lot of decisions, but it’s always reinforced when that last final roster shows up,” Hufnagel said.
