TORONTO — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have taken Central Michigan University receiver Kito Poblah first overall in the CFL supplemental draft.

Monday’s draft featured players who received official non-import status from the Canadian Football League and the CFL Players’ Association after the Canadian draft.

In taking Poblah, the Bombers forfeit their first-round draft pick in 2012.

The six-foot-two, 213-pound native of Montreal finishes his university career as the ninth-leading receiver in school history with 1,908 yards and ended with a 36-game streak with at least one reception.

"We’re very happy to be adding a player of Kito’s calibre to our roster," said Bombers vice-president and general manager Joe Mack. "We feel this addition certainly strengthens our Canadian contingent, especially at the receiver position, and we look forward to having him in camp to compete for a spot on our roster among the very talented group of receivers that we have assembled."

The Edmonton Eskimos picked defensive tackle Ted Laurent, forfeiting their second-round pick next year, while the B.C. Lions selected Wilfrid Laurier defensive lineman Alex Ellis, forfeiting their sixth-round pick in 2012.

Laurent, a six-foot-one, 304-pound native of Powder Springs, Georgia, made 21 tackles in 12 games last season with the University of Mississippi.

Ellis, a six-foot-one, 306-pound Toronto native, played for Laurier in 2007.
