EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos released veteran centre Aaron Fiacconi on Friday.
The 10-year veteran spent the past five seasons with Edmonton. His 2011 campaign was cut short by a rotator cuff injury but Fiacconi, 32, still received the David Boone Memorial Award for his outstanding work in the community.
Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman said with Gorde Hinse and Kyle Koch also on the roster, the team has a surplus of talent at the centre position.
"That said it’s never easy to say goodbye to a class act like Aaron," Tillman said in a statement. "Fortunately, he’s recovered from his surgery and at age 32, we strongly believe Aaron can help a club in need of a seasoned vet, especially one who will bring strong leadership qualities to a locker room."
