Former Stamps TE/DB Warlick dead at age 80

Former Calgary Stampeders alumnus and Buffalo Bills Pro Bowler Ernie Warlick died over the weekend at the age of 80.

For five seasons from 1957 to 1961 Warlick played as a tight end and defensive back for the Stampeders and was a three-time West Division all-star during that time. He caught 192 passes for 3,332 yards including 16 touchdowns. He led the team in catches twice including in 1959 when he had a career best 53 receptions for 909 yards.

Following his CFL career, Warlick also played in the American Football League with the Buffalo Bills and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. He won AFL championships with the Bills in 1964 and 1965.

Warlick was born in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife, three children and five grandchildren.
