EDMONTON — Receiver Kevin Challenger was among seven players released Thursday by the Edmonton Eskimos.
The Eskimos had to reduce their roster to 46 players by 3 p.m. ET.
The five-foot-nine, 178-pound Montreal native was entering his third season with the Eskimos. He appeared in in the club’s 18 regular-season games and its West Division semifinal last year, performing on special teams.
Challenger had eight catches for 166 yards in 2008.
The Eskimos also let defensive back Willie Amos go. Amos re-signed with Edmonton in January after originally being acquired from Winnipeg in June 2009 for offensive lineman Thaddeus Coleman.
The other players released were offensive lineman Patrick Afif, long-snapper Taylor Inglis, slotback Jamaica Rector and linebackers Greg Whelan and Frantz Jospeh.
