TORONTO — He spent just two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, but that was more than enough to earn quarterback Doug Flutie a spot on the CFL club’s all-time roster.
Flutie, who guided Toronto to consecutive Grey Cup wins in `96 and `97, has been named the quarterback of the All-Time Argos squad in voting conducted by alumni, the media and fans. The honour is the second in as many days for Flutie, who on Thursday became the first non-Canadian to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
The team comprises 28 current and former players. The active players on the squad include slotback Derrell Mitchell and linebackers Michael O’Shea and Michael Fletcher. Head coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons, who was named the All-Time team’s kick returner.
Bob O’Billovich, named Toronto’s all-time coach, is still working in the CFL, but as the B.C. Lions player-personnel director.
Members of the team will be honoured Saturday at halftime of the Argos game versus Winnipeg at Rogers Centre.
