WINNIPEG — This will be a very special weekend for Tony Anselmo, Alondra Johnson, Jim Mills, Rudy Phillips and Glen Weir.
The five will formally be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame on Friday. CFL commissioner Mark Cohon will also attend the ceremony, which will held in Winnipeg for the first time ever.
The five newest inductees will be presented their Hall of Fame jackets and have their busts unveiled. Anselmo will go into the Hall as a builder while Johnson, Mills, Phillips and Weir are all former players.
The induction ceremony will highlight the Hall of Fame weekend. The five will also be honoured during the Winnipeg Blue Bombers-Toronto Argonauts game Saturday night at Canad Inns Stadium.
“This is a very deserving class,” Mark DeNobile, the Hall of Fame’s executive director, said in a statement. “These men personify what’s great about Canadian football, from electrifying plays on the field while working to make our game and our communities stronger off the field.
“These gentlemen rarely played in the spotlight, but always at a very high level. It is only right that they now be honoured for their contributions to the game with this induction into the Hall.”
