EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos are hoping Brandon James will be a difference-maker in the CFL.
The Eskimos signed the former NCAA star to be a kick returner on Thursday. James set a number of records during his collegiate career at Florida, where he helped the school to a national title in 2007 and was twice named an All-SEC player.
"In a highly competitive league like ours, special teams are often the difference in winning closing games," said Eskimos GM Eric Tillman. "With his speed and elusiveness, we believe Brandon has a chance to be an explosive talent. … We’re hoping Brandon will generate an abundance of excitement and big plays."
James signed with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent last year and appeared in three regular-season games.
