WINNIPEG — Jeff Thompson has been re-elected to the board of directors for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the club announced Monday.
Thompson is returning to the post after serving as chief transition officer over the past 14 months as the team prepares to move to its new stadium, Investors Group Field, for the 2012 season.
Among his duties Thompson was responsible for securing corporate sponsorship, naming rights, as well as the clubs new premium seating ventures.
Garth Buchko, the boss of local radio broadcast-rights holder CJOB, will assume Thompson’s duties as the club’s new president and chief executive officer.
"The Winnipeg Football Club has come a long way in such as short time as we get ready to transition to the new stadium," board chairman Bill Watchorn said in a statement. "Jeff is well deserving of a ton of credit for everything he accomplished with the stadium and we are very happy to have him return to the Board where his input and guidance is very much respected."
