VANCOUVER — The B.C. Lions signed import defensive back Lin-J Shell and import defensive tackle Eric Taylor to contract extensions Wednesday.

"Eric and Lin-J were key free-agent acquisitions who have developed into important defensive players for our club," Lions general manager Wally Buono said in a release. "This is another important step for our club heading into the season and I’m pleased to get these contracts done."

Taylor enters his third season with the Lions. He had four sacks and 21 tackles in 15 games last season.

Shell is back for a second season after signing as a free agent last year. He had 31 tackles and 17 special teams stops in 18 games last year.

"I expect both Eric and Lin-J to be key contributors to our defence this season," said head coach Mike Benevides. "We’ve made a few changes in our secondary and along the defensive line which not only affects their respective roles, but also our expectations moving forward."
