In football, “It’s a long season” is a very famous saying. But in the CFL, just looking at the season schedule really puts the old adage into perspective.
Already into Week 3 of the 18 week season, things is moving real slow, to me anyways. The fact that I haven’t been able to practice or play in the last few weeks definitely plays a big role in this feeling. But winning the first two games of the season definitely helps sooth the lack of action.
Being 2-0 is an amazing accomplishment and felt all around the city. Beating the Toronto Argonauts after losing to them in the preseason match up in itself was incredible. The atmosphere at Canad Inns Stadium last game was electric. The fans were extremely loud which definitely helped the team in the victory.
Despite not having played yet, I’ve been blessed to have teammates and coaches who understand my situation and are supportive while being patient with me.
As my knee starts to feel better, our team trainer, Al Couture, increases the intensity of each treatment session. The workouts are getting tougher, but I guess it only means that my knee is getting better and stronger each day.
As I think about the whole process I believe everyone can learn something from it. So the lesson of this blog is: the further and better one gets in his craft he or she must work harder and challenge oneself daily. With that attitude the sky is the limit, no matter what this person’s craft is. It’s just a mattter of how one looks at their situation.
In football, injuries will happen; just like spontaneous obstacles transpire in life. Getting treatment beside guys that are as positive as veterans Clint Kent and Greg Carr make these minor setbacks pass by a little faster. They have taught me to always look ahead and not feel remorseful of any circumstance, but to make the best of what I can do and use that to make myself better.
Having a fellow rookie in these workouts with me everyday definitely pushes me to continue to work hard. Central Michigan product and No. 1 supplemental draft pick Kito Poblah also has been sidelined with an injury. We motivate and encourage each other through the workouts. We continually remind each other of the saying: Tough times never last, but tough people do.
This time together has made us closer as well, and is definitely a constructive friendship that will last a really long time.
My parents have always told me to surround myself with hard working and positive individuals. These are the times where doing just that becomes important.
