Free agent running back Trent Richardson is on his way to Regina with intent of finalizing a deal with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, according to Justin Dunk of 3 Down Nation.

The No. 3 overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft Richardson struggled to find a fit in the NFL after an exceptional three-year college career at Alabama.

Due to struggles to find an NFL gig, Richardson’s agent, according to Dunk, has been actively shopping the 27-year-old to CFL teams.

First drafted by the Browns, Richardson enjoyed a strong rookie season in 2012 where he rushed for 950 yards with 11 touchdowns in 15 games played, but never came close to replicating his college success and was notoriously traded to the Indianapolis Colts in the middle of his second season.

The Colts eventually waived Richardson in March 2015. The Oakland Raiders signed Richardson five days later but released him less than two weeks before the season opener.

Richardson’s last shot at the NFL came in April 2016 when the Baltimore Ravens signed him, but he was waived in August of that year.
