MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — The Toronto Argonauts re-acquired defensive end Ronald Flemons from the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Monday in exchange for wide receiver T.J. Acree.

The Argos also received a fifth-round pick in the 2011 CFL Canadian draft while the Riders got Toronto’s third-round pick in 2011 and the playing rights to a negotiation-list player.

“We are really excited to have Ron Flemons back as an Argo,” Toronto head coach Rich Stubler said in a release. “He’s a piece of our 2007 defence that has been sorely missed. Ron is the type of player who plays hard and has a lot of fun. This is the type of player we want on our defence.”

Flemons played 21 games for the Argos over two seasons before being shipped to Saskatchewan in the off-season blockbuster trade that brought quarterback Kerry Joseph to Toronto.

Acree was in his first year with Toronto after being acquired from Edmonton in the off-season. He spent the first week on the reserve roster and started at slotback last week where he had two catches for 11 yards.

Acree dressed in 11 games with Edmonton last season and had 67 receptions for 521 yards and two touchdowns. In his previous two seasons with the B.C. Lions, Acree played in nine games and had 28 catches for 266 yards.

“This business can certainly bring some unexpected happenings,” Riders GM Eric Tillman said in a release. “Clearly, trading Ron back to the Argos is one of them. But to be honest, our defensive line dynamic changed significantly, with us being able to sign Keith Shologan so much sooner than we had anticipated.”

Shologan, a Riders’ first-round draft pick, was recently released by the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.
