Less than a week after being released by Toronto, rookie kicker/punter Ronnie Pfeffer has agreed to a three-year deal with the Ottawa Redblacks, per sources.
Pfeffer filled in for the CFL’s 2014 top special teams player, Swayze Waters, who was sidelined with a hip flexor injury, and handled all three kicking duties for the Argos. In six games with Toronto he made good on 12-of-16 field goal attempts with a long of 52 yards and hit 11-of-13 extra points while punting for a 44.1-yard average. With Waters healed and ready to return to the lineup, Pfeffer was let go by the Argonauts.
The Laurier product led the CIS with a 42.3-yard punt average in 2014 on the way to becoming a 2014 All-Canadian punter. Also, Pfeffer made 57-of-81 three-point tries in four seasons as a Golden Hawk.
Pfeffer spent training camp with the Redblacks this year so the team is familiar with him.
