REGINA — Doug Berry is back coaching in the CFL.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders named Berry as their offensive co-ordinator and assistant head coach Thursday. Berry didn’t coach last season after being fired as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach after the 2008 season but was a candidate for the Toronto Argonauts position before the club hired Jim Barker.
Berry began his CFL coaching career with Montreal in 1999 and spent seven years with the Alouettes before joining the Blue Bombers in 2006.
The Riders also named former head coach Jim Daley as their special-teams co-ordinator. Daley served as head coach from 1996-’98, leading the club to a Grey Cup appearance in 1997. He was the Edmonton Eskimos’ defensive co-ordinator last year.
Ken Miller returns for his third season as the club’s head coach and this year adds the title of vice-president of football operations to his resume. Other members of his staff include: Gary Etcheverry (defensive co-ordinator); Bob Dyce (receivers coach/pass game co-ordinator); Alex Smith (linebackers coach/ college draft co-ordinator); Nelson Martin (defensive backs coach); Mike Scheper (defensive line coach); and Marcus Crandell (offensive assistant).
