The Saskatchewan Roughriders released rookie quarterback Colt Brennan on Monday.

The move leaves the Riders with four quarterbacks still under contract: starter Darian Durant and backups J.T. O’Sullivan, Levi Brown and Drew Willy.

Brennan was vying for a backup position behind Durant.

Brennan played collegiately at the University of Hawaii, where he was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy as U.S. college football’s outstanding player.

He was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins, who released Brennan in 2010.

He was later picked up by the Oakland Raiders, who also let him go.
